My career has been a blend of my two greatest interests: athletics and technology. From pro athlete to coach to software developer my career has spanned the spectrum. I am passionate about using technology to improve well-being, with a special interest in 3D technologies for athletic performance. After I graduated with a BS in Computer Science, I chose to put technology aside and pursue my volleyball dreams. For 4 years I was a professional volleyball player, both as a member of the Canadian national team and with various teams throughout Europe. When injuries forced me to retire, I transitioned to coaching, working as an assistant coach for Appalachian State University. During my time as a coach I became especially invested in using video playback as a training tool. I was motivated to find even better technologies for sport training, and developed an interest in 3D motion capture and VR/AR. An opportunity presented itself to join Doug A. Bowman and his 3D Interaction research group at Virginia Tech and I jumped on it. During my time in grad school I focused on both psychological and biomechanical training, and wrote a thesis titled ‘Virtual Reality for Sport Training’. While still finishing my degree, I was offered a job as a web developer with Precision Nutrition. A different spin on my interests, but an opportunity to impact the lives of thousands of clients looking to improve their health and fitness. I have been working with PN since 2012 and am fully entrenched in the remote-worker lifestyle. I enjoy travelling the world, and currently have two home-bases: one in Ottawa, Canada and one in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
